Corn Mushroom and Poblano Tacos
with cheese, cilantro, onions, guacamole and salsa quemada
This is my favorite vegetarian dish at Carmelitas. The mushrooms are so earthy, juicy, and satisfying in the tacos - they always hit the spot. Unlike other Mexican cuisine restaurants, Carmelitas isn't laden in salt and grease; the chef really lets the quality of ingredients shine in each dish resulting in everything from the rice, to the beans, to the excellent salsa tasting like a delicacy. One word of caution for vegetarians - ask for the whole beans with your dish as the refried black beans (and the tasty bean dip my husband raves about) are not vegetarian. The servers are so accommodating and the lakefront view can't be beat in town.
